Hope From Ashes
|
There was mutiny in my heart
I did more than rock the boat I threw you overboard I took the wheel I charted my course I ran aground I wrecked the ship And set it ablaze And I escaped As one through the flames The flames - they ate what was left Greedily licking up all that remained Matchstick pride and carelessness An explosive combination Wreaking utter destruction Beyond what I could have imaginedI played with more than fire And ashes mark the grave Of all that was good - that could have been Which I destroyed today |
But somehow on this forsaken isle
You are already here And sing a song of my redemption It rings faintly in my ears And somewhere in the distance A bell is rolling my doom But it chimes in perfect harmony With your ever growing tune And as I sit upon the ash heap And stare out at the sea Each crashing wave and rising swell Sings out your melody |
And my heart begins repeating
The redemption song I hear And my mind - it starts believing All the music that I hear And my spirit - it is rising Like a Phoenix at rebirth And my soul is now reprising And my being filled with mirth For what burned today, though painful Was fully worth the loss You were taking what seemed shameful And scraping off the dross You were drawing hope from ashes As only you can do You were burning up the last of me And replacing it with you |
