                                         Human Connection

Sometimes community forms
In the blink of an eye
You sit at a picnic table
On a hiking trail
To reflect on life
And a group of ladies
Emerge from the woods
Filled with conversation and nature
And sit down beside you
As if you're all old friends
And one asks to borrow your pen
And they comment on how much
They like your tattoo
And another one asks
To borrow your pen
And they apologize for
Interrupting your solitude
To which you respond,
"Don't apologize!
This is what being part of
The human community is all about."
And they wave and wish you well
And disappear as quickly
As they appeared
And you find yourself smiling
And thinking, "This is what its all about -
Connection."
