                                                              Ode to the Sun

Yellow sun disk
God of heavens
Bequeathed to earthlings
To pull and swing us around
Like so many children
Caught in their parents' arms
With the world spinning
Around them
Still, yet moving
Endless velocity unperceived
How limited our senses
How limited our knowledge
A heavenly body
That we can't even face
Without going blind
The life force of our world
Illuminator of the moon
Herald of the morning
And the one who pulls
The blanket of darkness
Over the sleeping world
As it exits the room
Keeper of the day
Watching over the world below
Heat of life
Fire of death
Radiating celestial body
You were the first fruits of existence
The guiding force
The centerpiece
Perhaps we have it all wrong
Thinking we are most important
As the imago dei
Perhaps there is more of
The image of the divine
In your life energy
Than what was once found in us
