                                                           The Ache of Loss

The wound is fresh and deep and wants protection
The raw nerves can't take the exposure
The searing pain of a convulsing heart
I see and hear and smell you everywhere
And with each reminder
My eyes erupt with tears
My body heaves with an irrepressible sadness
A pining, a heaviness, a crushed spirit
A shaking of the head in disbelief

The memories come in waves and floods
And my soul drowns in sorrow
Chokes with the overwhelming
Feeling of it all
Gulping down forced feedings of pain
The longing for what was and now is not
The death loss
A remembrance of things that have passed
Things our very bodies and souls remember
Even if our minds have tried to move on
We rend our garments
And sit on our ash heaps
With the pain of searing loss
Coursing through every vein
With a perpetual lump in our throats
And with a gaping hole in our hearts
I loved you
I love you
I will always love you
This hurts so much
