To Know and To Be Known

You didn't let me into your world
I didn't let you into mine
And it's been quite a while 
That we have not seen eye to eye
I've hinted at it gently
I've thrown pebbles just to break
The surface tension of it all
While causing little wake
But the truth is that I've tired
Of throwing little stones
When I know it's more important
Just to know and to be known

So I don't apologize
For anything I am
But I do sympathize
And know this comet's going to slam
Into your world and feel
Like suddenly – out of the blue
I've destroyed your sense of me

But the truth is more important
And love can only grow
