                               Transmutation of Love (The Wave of You)

waves of passion and emotion,
always underpinning,
sometimes undermining,
sometimes overflowing
into all that I do;
like the constant ebb and flow of the ocean,
sometimes strong,
sometimes calm,
but always there -
an ever-pulsating current of life;

and I rode the wave of you;
held on tightly as it gathered
energy, speed, height, depth, and power;
and near death, I felt so full of life,
for you were my passion,
pushing me up from underneath,
lifting my heart and spirit;

but this kinetic energy is not sustainable;
transference has to happen;
a conversion has to take place;
for energy cannot be created or destroyed.
and the wave of you
finally broke and crashed all around me,
and I was consumed
with everything you are,
with all the ways I needed you,
with all the beauty and love you reflected,
but I was drowning in my love for you;

and in a final effort,
I thrust my head above the water
and started to paddle;
I knew that in order to save myself
and to save you,
we needed this wave to come in to shore;
we needed to ground solidly together;

and like a plane coming in for landing,
we glided in safely,
and love converted forms
for its own self preservation;
nothing was lost, but rather, saved;
for love's energy cannot be created or destroyed.
